strange one this..my partner tepee passed it's MOT.....but on certificate it said TO CLEAN TO TEST.....not seen this before.......any comments

yes....could not test emissions..to clean So got a advisory........that's the bit i don't understand.....should it have failed... or this a new part of M.O.T.  my partner tepee has never smoked..always clean...I googled it...and there is a quite allot on there regarding this issue.....but it and miss with the answers

They can't fail you for emissions too low, but of it was so low it didn't even register then the only place they can note that is the advisory box. It is as it suggests, advising you. No need to worry, if it was over you'd know, cos it would have failed. Under is good.

Maybe your DPF is close to a regen ?

went my local county council mot depot........asked them the same question...he started laughing,,,he said he could not make any comment,regarding this issue...So my answer is,if it could not be tested it should have failed the mot [not that i wanted it to fail]........but that's the way i look at it

It's basically a note rather than an advisory, to advise that the diesel smoke emissions were lower than that detectable by the testing equipment.

It's fairly common for that to happen on DPF-equipped diesels that are in good health. A working DPF will allow no smoke, so the smoke test cannot detect any particulate. It's not like they let it slide through...it's got to be recorded as zero smoke particulate causes the machine to not produce a smoke test result so it has to be recorded manually. The only place the tester has available is the advisory box.

This is really common for DPF equipped cars, and really is nothing to worry about.

It should not have failed. No smoke is a perfect pass on the smoke test.

If it was a safety issue he could have refused to complete the test but it sounds like they tried to test it as a petrol.

an new one on me....you never stop learning..............
reading between the lines..........the new laws came into affect in june 2020..they can't use there old testing machines..unless they are up to standard....Could this be a factor

"low emission diesel engines (mainly Euro IV and onwards) may fail to trigger a reading on the DSM.

If you cannot get a reading or the DSM shows an error, you should mark the printout to show that the emissions limits were tested and met but the DSM could not register the reading."
