[Engine] cant/wont start

Hi Ya. newbie here

The problem!

I have a Berlingo semi-auto (2012) it won't start
 
Stopped at my son's flat in Glasgow having viewed my daughter’s new flat (also in Glasgow) had a socially distanced take away with my son, about to head home to Perth (where I live) Berlingo all lights up BUT won't start!?!?
 
Get out the AA, they couldn't fix it and recovered the Berlingo back to Perth (4 am eughh). The battery light is flashing consistently so I assume the battery is kaput. Take the daughters car and buy/fit the new battery. Battery light still flashing Berlingo no start!!! 

• both batteries actually seem to charge ok,
  
• the radio comes on and can be used
  
• locking works
  
• lights work
  
• the central dash readout is stuck in economy mode (then switches off)
  
• windows will not operate
  
• the diagnostic tool will not power up
  

If you turn the ignition there is no click for the starter motor but lights and radio go out
 
Questions

• is there a battery sensor somewhere?
  
• Where is it, does it have its own fuse?
  
• is there an obvious solution I am missing re this

Bad battery earth?
If you have a jump lead, try from the battery negative to somewhere on the engine block.

The battery monitoring module is built into the positive lug attachment. You maybe blew a fuse for one of the critical circuits and the BSI or ECU has detected it - flashing battery light is usually eco mode triggered. Normally starting the engine resets it to normal but of course you can't start yours and I get that. There are little fusible links on the positive terminal plate, look like little coloured plastic blocks.

If you're handy with a meter, you can check them, otherwise may need a mobile auto spark to check it. Surprised the AA didn't check those.

Started no problem with the Jump lead from the negative battery terminal to a nice bright bolthead on the engine casing
BUT
thing is the jump lead is now off (Berlingo still starting fine) but that means I have a bad earth somewhere
The negative terminal is lovely clean and bright and was solidly done up!
where should I look?

finally after all that how do I re-set the clock

Glad it was an easy enough fix. Try to follow the earth lead from the battery. I'm not sure where it ends up but there's a good chance it's loose or a bad connection there. Best to get it fixed quickly in case the earth is going via another route that may also fail.

Is the clock set via the menu button on the radio?

ahh. but I don't have the original radio!, I have a sony unit

I did succeed in re-setting the trip record on the dash following another thread though annoying as I was successfully proving a point using expensive diesel as opposed to cheap diesel with an additive

re the earth, I'm going to retrofit a 3rd party parking sensor. I will be running a cable from the back of the Berlingo to the dash, I going to take the opportunity to look then. the negative cable disappears down the back of the battery, I guess it splits and connects to both the engine block and the body

With regards to setting the clock, Did you fit the sony unit? if not, do your steering wheel controls still work?

The reason I ask is because I fitted a sony headunit to my 2013 berlingo and the adaptor which retained the steering wheel controls also allows you to enter the menu which the "menu" button on the original radio brought up.

If your steering controls do still work, try pushing [track forward] and [track back] at the same time. If the central head up display enters a menu, let me know and I'll will explain how to set the clock this way.

If not, stay up till midnight and disconnect battery again?

Wish I read this last night, 1st bit of work I have had since March kept me up into the wee small hours, i could have switched it off......DAmm

however, the wheel unit does work so I will give that a go later!
