[Transmission] Oil Leaking from bell housing
#1
New here & first posting / Ref: BERLINGO L1 DIESEL - 1.6 HDi 625Kg XTR+ 90ps
Driving along i heard a slight "pop sound" then could start to smell gearbox oil  Rolleyes
Pulled over & there was a gear oil dipping underneath - Got recovered home

Under tray covered in oil but the area it started from is where the O/S shaft goes into the gearbox
(Speedo drive? - 3x 13mm bolts) and the open portion where you can see the starter ring.
So i was 50/50 but hoping it was the shaft seal

Pulled the shafts and blocked / sealed the shaft holes at the box , Refilled the oil
On startup oil splattered out the open portion where the starter ring is ,
*Drilled a 6mm hole into the bottom of the bell housing and oil came out. .

Anyone had this before? I`ve made a start on removing the gearbox tonight

Has to be the input shaft seal? Weird. Can't imagine how it could pop like that unless something was generating heat and expanded the oil somehow.

Was it recently serviced or filled up? (Gbox)

Check that the gearbox breather isn't blocked as this will cause pressure within the box.

Cheers guys ,

The only work that`s been done to that one was a CV boot & tyres back in January

Removed the gearbox today to find an inch hole on the inside
Find another box time  Rolleyes

What on earth has punched a hole there, I would be looking to find the bits and the cause. But as you say looks like another box is required.
Are we there yet????? Huh
