Alternator woes
#11

If so, could be an issue with connectors between the alternator and battery plus, or a bad earth cable. Dropping a couple of volts is usually a dirty contact. Maybe worth cleaning all of the lugs with emery paper and refit, also the bolts with a brass or wire brush.

I'll give that a go.

yeah 14.2v from the B+ to ground on the alternator. I'll clean the battery terminals later and see if that helps.

Ok if you can, test on DC voltage from b+ on the alternator to + on the battery, may need a helper due to location and long enough leads or a jumper wire. If you see 2.2v then that's the volt drop on that cable causing the issue. Next, try the same trick from alternator ground to battery neg and see if the 2.2v drop is there. When you find out where it's dropping, you can clean both ends of the cable, or run an auxillary cable that's heavy enough with terminated ends and that would cure it.

Remember if your 14.2v reference ground is the alternator body, not the main earth, then it may be the alternator earth connection that's the issue....
