Suspension Knocking

Morning all,

I replaced a broken front spring recently on my 2002 Berlingo. Bit of a nightmare as the spring compressors weren't long enough, but anyway, thats not the problem.

I think I had this before, but now its got MUCH worse (change in ride height etc?); I get a metallic tapping/knocking over bumps... I suspect it could be the rubber bushes on the anti roll bar, but I'm not sure

Just curious if anyone else has had a similar issue and could confirm that I'm on the right path with the anti-roll bar...

Yes, I have gone through several anti roll bar links.

They are only about £10 to replace and a easy enough job if you are handy with a spanner as it's just two nuts, one either end.

You need to jack up the front end on both sides and remove the wheel to access the link.

The link bars? They looked fine with little play etc. I was wondering if it was the rubber bushes actually on the roll bar itself.

The link bars are a common fault and would be worth checking first.

There shouldn't be any play in them if you grip and shake them by hand. If there is play, the joint is probably shot. The bottom one normally goes.

Checked the links over and the side where i had changed the spring had not seated correctly and the first bump must have knocked it out of place. So aligned it properly and reseated it and the noise has now stopped.
