Coolant leak. Under pressure from under thermostat area

2007 Berlingo 1.6hdi Coolant leaking under pressure when hot from under what looks like the vacuum pump. Maybe from under or around the black plastic thing with the coolant/heating bleed nipple and water pipes. I think it's the thermostat?
Its my friends. I don't know much about Citreon. I have VW that I maintain myself. Any ideas what it might be?

Hi Welcome , Is it a berlingo your talking about ? .
There are a lot of different models with a lot of different engines and its hard to guess what one you mean. 

the year, model, petrol or diesel will help and if poss a photo of your problem area can bring results

Coolant squirts backward toward bulkhead along shelf of engine block/cylinder head underneath thermostat....is it likely to just be the thermostat to head seal or something more sinister?

If you are sure it is not dripping from the bleed nipple, then most likely it is the thermostat gasket. These are known to become brittle with age. Not too difficult to replace.

No not dripping, it's a high pressure sqirt. Quite a lot. Gets worse as engine heats up. I'm thinking thermo gasket too. The bottom hose had come off the rad and dumped all the fluid. I think when it was put back on and the system refilled to get her home by a friendly forecourt guy it over pressured. When they released the bleed nipple a huge amount of air came out at quite high pressure.

It's for fiesta, but it is not too different.

Does it come out under pressure from cold, or as soon as it starts to get warm? The head gasket may have gone and it's pressuring the water jacket.

From cold. It starts and drives fine but leaves a trail of collant. She sent a pic. It's squirting towards the rear bulkhead along the edge of the block under the thermostat
