Hi I’m looking at getting a berling Multispace in the near future and wasn’t sure what one to get between the mk1 and mk2. I want a petrol one as the ULEZ may end up affecting me so is there a specific petrol engine to go for? Is the mk2 a big improvement over the mk1 and worth the extra money? What’s the mpg like on them? Is there any must haves or anything in particular to look out for on these?
Many thanks

I have just bought a Berlingo Multispace. I am in no way an expert on these, i went for the MK2 diesel 1600 mainly because of fuel consumption, mine shows 50mpg on the display. I found the petrol one very hard to find. The road tax on my car it £150 per year, i got a bit lost on the different amounts of road tax for these, I have seen some as high a £305 per year, think these maybe the 2litre one but just guessing on that.

The MK2 if by which you mean the B9, is a completely different vehicle in every way, much bigger, better looking (in my opinion, I've had both) and different to drive. People often call the MK1 facelift (M59) a MK2, but it's not. The B9 is 08-18 and the M59 04-11 or something, there is an overlapping period when both shapes were sold.
The MK1 and MK1.5 were based on the Citroen Xsara and Pug 306 respectively, where the B9 MK2 is based on the C4 Grand Picasso.
There is only one petrol version, a 1.6 16v one. There are 2 different diesels at 1.6 depending on year, a 16v and the later 8v.

Also how do they handle mileage? Would I be better with a 2006 with 70k on it or a 2011 with 100k. I know it depends on how well it’s been looked after but is there a different in the petrol engine on these two models or anything I should be looking out for? Are there things that will need doing at that age/mileage that I need to factor in to the cost when buying?
Many thanks

If you are still talking about an M59, it's a 1.4 petrol that is famous for rotting it's head gasket out over time. The B9 is the 1.6 unit but I've only had diesels so can't say on that one. A few guys on here have petrols.
I'd say a newer model with a bit higher mileage is better, as rust and time will always be a factor. Mileage wears some components, time rusts them all....but again just my own take.
I always try to get the newest I can afford, with the lowest mileage I can find.

There are 2 leading petrol engines: the 1.4 (TU3) en 1.6 (TU5JP4) for MK1 and MK2. Both are very reliable. If you need more power go for the 1.6/16V. Indeed one's in his live (average after 15 years) the 1.4 needs een new head gasket, but replacing is not rocket science. The TU5JP4 has not this problem, but I have seen more times a camshaft seal is leaking.
Keep in mind that PSA will full support, as far as I know, a certain model for 10 years. Recently I ran into that a part was no longer available. It was the fual filling neck. A very essential part.
