Fitting reversing sensors
#1
Anyone fitted these? I have looked underneath the rear bumper and there is a steel channel running the width of the car, there are two ovals cut out of this channel that will allow the sensors to be mounted there but they will be as pairs not spaced out as shown in the instructions. Something is better than nothing i guess

Get the bumper off a car or van that already has them ? My van has it as standard. That way you already have the holes. I don't know anyone who has fitted an aftermarket kit. Is this what your fitting?

Yes they are aftermarket ones. The plastic bumper is no problems it the  metal channel behind it, i am guessing thats the real bumper and drilling holes in it will weaken it.

Can you look online for pictures of the bumper reinforcement bar for a model with parking sensors and see what it looks like.

I fitted a wireless kit a few years ago and running the cable through the plastic bumper is a pain as it is honeycombed

I have aftermarket ones fitted front and back. My sensors don't actually sit far enough back to touch the metal cross members. I'm actually in the middle of spraying up a few replacements to swap out as I damaged one dropping the front bumper off. And when I refurbed the spare wheel I noticed that one rear one had the wire unattached from back of the sensors so I've popped that one out ready for the new replacements. I can take a picture when I'm home from work tomorrow to show u the space between the bumper and cross member if that will help. As well a few full pics of the sensors placements?

I have to laugh I disabled my parking sensors as I couldn't put up with the incessant beeping !!

Good luck with it anyway.

I couldn't do without mine. Having a van with steel rear doors and no windows, in the city centre, it's a must. Ok not much use for those who have windows to look out of, and a rear view mirror....

So I've added the pictures as promised as I'm in the middle of replacing a few of mine. The fronts do dril through a plastic behind the bumper (before front crossmember) for the middle 2. The rear are all easy to get to and my 2 centre ones are within the oval shaped cut out that is already there so no cutting anything on the back but bumper. I took a picture for you so u could see the spacing. I've never had a problem with mine for spacing. Hope this helps.
