[Warning Light] 2 beep audio warning when key turned to ignition on
#1
Good morning guys, So I changed my oil and filter for the first time on Tuesday. While doing this I had to drop the front bumper as the 3 nuts holding the under tray on at the front were seized. I removed these so not to have a problem next year when doing an oil change. I completed that job. Then noticed the coolant wasn't its usual perky colour so decided to replace to the coolant completely too dropped the bottom hose then replaced and filled up the expansion tank, let it get up to temperature to allow the thermostat to open and dropped it out again and refilled. Super happy I did that job. I then reset the service light. Ever since I've done these jobs I've got 2 beeps which seem to come from behind the steering wheel. Not radio. Taking in mind that I had to start the car a fair few times to turn the wheels to get better access to the wheel liners to then access the bolts for the bumper both side. Plus starting for the coolant to be pushed round. I thought the beeps would have been low battery noise. I drove 45 mins yesterday to Paultons Park all being fine (still 2 beeps when turn ignition on) It did say economy mode and battery flashed. But started fine. Then 6 hours later to come home I turned ignition on 2 beeps again no eco mode this time and drove home. Seems sods law that the first time I do any of my own work on the car and I get the warning tones with no warning. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I've Googled it and can't seem to find anything for 2 beeps. Tia.

May be worth re-doing the service indicator reset - see attached

And check the oil level on the dipstick when sat for a good while, is not too high - does it say OIL OK when you start? (I'd still trust the dipstick more)

Also have you knocked the plug off the water level sensor (if you have one) when you topped it up.

It seems this is usually an oil level warning, but can also be loss of the comms link between the stereo and BSI, for that try holding the menu button until the stereo reboots, with the engine running, and see if that cures it.

The other thing I found, is there can be an audible warning when your key battery is getting low, it is supposed to post a message on the info screen in the dash or instruments to say " Key battery low" or something similar.

Hi Zion,
Oil level is good and reading OK on the dash when I turn key in ignition. I dug the spare key out and left the key I usually use back in the house that still made 2 beeps so I don't think it's that. I have noticed today that when I turn key to the ignition it says auto locking on... Its always been on but I don't remember seeing it show in the radio screen. Maybe I'm just only just realising the beeps but I'm sure I would have noticed them before. I might try turning auto locking off and see if it's still doing it. I read somewhere else about a Peugeot car that had 3 beeps and the dealer opened all the electric windows down then up and then making sure doors where shut then doing the key in the ignition and it stopped it.....so annoying when u don't actually know the answer isn't it

Hey Kelly, yeah that all makes sense. Btw my van always says "auto locking on" in the stereo display when I start the engine, so it's not that. Windows, not so sure. Try holding up on each window till it clicks, that's the anti trap setting done. Did you check that if you have a water level sensor on the expansion tank (not looked to see if there is such a thing) but I'm running out of ideas.

Finally, you don't say if you tried holding MENU on the stereo to reboot it and make it send it's details to the BSI again while running. Some folk have sorted the beeps like that.

I'll give the menu thing a try tomorrow then. I did press it for few seconds but didn't wait long enough for a beep lol. There isn't a sensor for the expansion tank as when I came to change the coolant it was close to low. Its now just below the max . Will do the window thing too. Thanks again. Will update tomorrow

I read a few owners having mystery beeps on start up, they seem to think holding menu until the stereo reboots had fixed it. I scanned the manual in pdf format for "audible" and there are a few audible warning things but all were accompanied by a message. This apparently is not uncommon though, to get two unknown beeps when starting up.

Hi Zion, So I went out and tried the window thing and the radio thing. The radio thing did nothing no beep at all. So decided to see if it the battery was in need of charge.... Nope. If the alternator was working well well?.... Yep that's fine. So I decided to pull the trim from under the steering wheel. There was the buzzer for the front parking sensors turn ignition on 2 beeps from there. So I went out and looked at all the sensors checking to make sure they where all attached etc..... And found my problem. So I've broken a front sensor. Least I've got to the bottom of it now and shouldn't be a costly fix. Thanks for ur help again.
