da.Nm vs. m.daN torque settings
#1
Hi All,

I was looking at re-sealing the exhaust camshaft cover of the 1.6 petrol version (NFU or TU5JP engine) due to a slight oil leak through the original sealant.
I had a look at the tightening torque of the bolts and they are specified as pre-tightening 0.2 da.Nm and tightening 0.8 m.daN. There is no problem with the da.Nm, as 0.2 da.Nm is 2Nm, but does anyone know what m.daN is? Is it the same as the dacanewton metre.

Here is a picture of how these two are specified, although it baffles me why put the two torque specifications one after another if they are the same, which leads me to believe they are different things.

Many thanks indeed for any help.

Managed to find a few conversion things going over the whole internet.

Correct me if I am wrong.

1kpm (kilopond metre) = 9.80665 Nm (Newton metre)
1daNm (decanewton metre) = 10Nm

Somewhere on the net, it was given that 1mdaN (metre deca Newton perhaps) is ~7.3756 lbs/ft, following this:

1mdaN = 10Nm

So, it seems 1da.Nm = 1m.daN = 10Nm, but why would they write it one after another in two different ways, it really baffles me.

yes its just multiples of 10/100/100 etc.

probably done to confuse the diy and independent garages so they have to pay a dealer for the information.

Good luck finding a torque wrench that will go that low accurately. Better off just using FT Smile

Thanks for that, I was scratching my head there. My torque wrench is 2-24Nm, but I bet is not that accurate. I suspect that whether is 8Nm or 10Nm it does not make that much of a difference.
