Air con has been running constantly since i bought the car a few weeks ago, button on the dash is on all the time, i just tried pulling the fuse:
F18 Air conditioning blower (40A)
and that stops the heater working as well, I can live without aircon and i guess it's costing some money to run it all the time, anything easy i can do to switch it off?

Might sound like a daft suggestion, but that "button" is the only one in the entire car, that is actually a latching switch and not a one-touch button (at least in the B9, I didn't have AC in my M59's). If you press it, it should pop out and the aircon will switch off. If you leave it latched in, the aircon will come on whenever you start the car.....
If it is a touch button on the M59, then why not disconnect the plug from the back of the switch body itself, if pressing it (touching it) does not switch the AC off, then the button may be "making" all the time so unplugging it should stop the AC without disabling the heating.

that was going to be my next thing to do. BUT
whilst going through the fuses i swapped out the 12v cigarrette lighter fuse which had blown this morning and whilst just driving noticed that the internal lights now work even without the doors being open (seemed like a weird glitch) so i pressed the AC button and for the first time it has now switched off! so I guess that the cigarette lighter fuse must also be connected to the dashboard button for the AC somehow??
anyway it's all good now and thought I'd post up the solution just in case anyone else has an AC they can't turn off, try the lighter socket fuse!!!

That's a good find, it could have been a weird loop created by the lighter fuse being blown. The internal lights come on via the BSI when you turn off the engine and pull the keys out before you open the doors - could all have been a weird glitch from the cig lighter fuse. Did you have anything still plugged into the cig lighter while the fuse was blown?

Never turn my aircon off - don't really see the point. Keeps the interior dry and windows never mist up. The systems are so efficient these days, they hardly cost anything to run.

Yeah I often run with mine on Tree, certainly all the time in wet or cold weather, with the heating at a warm setting. It really does keep the interior dry. In the summer it's great when those few days come along when it is actually hot. So I guess mine is not often off either.

no it was blown when I bought it, but the car radio had a usb plug so I didn't need it.

that's good to know, I googled and it said car aircons can use upto 10% extra fuel, but if the Berlingo aircon doesn't use much then i will pop it back on occasionally to dry out the interior cos i often have a wet dog in the car! I also spotted water under the car all the time and took me a little bit of googling to find out it was the aircon!
thank you both for your comments

Yep even with the heating on hot, the AC dries the interior as it is a very effective dehumidifier. The water under the car is the condensation removed from the interior. Modern AC systems like ours have a magnetic clutch so they are very efficient compared to older belt driven compressors.
