coolant/antifreeze capacity 1.6HDi
#1
Hi all,

Does anyone know the coolant/antifreeze capacity of the M59 (2007) 1.6HDi?
I just changed the coolant and managed to drain (bottom radiator hose) 4.6L. Haynes says 11L and also mentions a cylinder block drain plug, which of course I did not do as I read somewhere it is very difficult to tighten back, new o-ring and all. I just do not believe there is ~6.5L of the old coolant still left in the engine. Refilled with a header tank (old bottle) with about the same amount that I drained, which is not surprising.

OK, I agree that on dry, there will be more to add, but still, cannot be that much more.

Many thanks indeed for any info.

Hi Saskak, go to https://www.total.co.uk/lub-advisor and enter your registration, hit the enter key, then click on the blue part of the banner for "select other component" (the first info is engine oil) and select "cooling system" - it will show the coolant required and the amount, if you are still unsure, use the live chat, the Total advisors are very helpful. I have attached the data sheet they gave me for my B9, it shows the fluids and levels required for almost everything (except gear oil as there is insufficient info on their database - probably as Citroen regard it as sealed for life)

The B9 is listed with Total as 6.3L of coolant so I think Haynes is wrong.

Many thanks for the suggestion. The total website also reports 11L. I would have thought 5-6L or something thereabout would be OK, but not 11L.

That's weird, the same wrong data must be shared with them from Citroen then, as the B9 HDi says 6.3L...

How much difference is there between the 1.6 B9 HDi (9HN) and my 1.6 M59 HDi (engine code 9HX). I suspect not that much.

Not much, you have a doser valve where the 9HN doesn't, and the crankcase breather system is different. I can't see the coolant capacity being different though.

Other sites like Comma quote 6.3L so based on what you found on the actual engine, I would think the 11L is nonsense.

6.3L makes sense to me. I have probably drained ~4.7-8L (4.6L in the bucket and some spilled over), so probably ~1.5L left, which sounds reasonable to me.

The B9 (08-16) only takes 6.25L.
B9 (2016) 1.6 BlueHDi 100 Multispace XTR = Mine;   B9 (2013) Enterprise 1.6 HDi Van = Hers.
