Roof Rack Blanking Plug Removal
#21
Hi thanks also to theraginganarchist, for the piece of mind info. I guess as the stainless bolts are soft and the nuts in the roof are mild steel it would be the bolts that take most of any damage. I can make do for now with the Rhino bars, and they are keeping the rain out until I can find some Genuine rails. Just going round the rest of it now ticking off little jobs to bring it up to scratch, though the one rear door catch/stay is refusing to re attach at the moment. I am sure I will overcome it at some point.

You're welcome Andy. I actually have the genuine bolts sitting on my desk at the moment so if you think pictures with measurements might be useful to you just shoot me a P.M and I'll host them on dropbox for you (can't post pictures in thread as i am no longer registered to a image hosting site.

I have no idea what a drop box is, I am not too hot on the old i.t. sadly. Regards the bolts if you don't mind sharing where you ordered them from that would be great. I assume they are the ones with the same part number mentioned by Zion earlier?

Yep Same ones Zion kindly linked to - P/N 9035S1

I picked them up from a main dealer as i needed them in a rush. They didn't cost any more than then the online price so depending on how far away from a dealer you live might be worth popping into one.

The Rhino bars currently on mine have two plastic wedges at the front to compensate for the curve of the roof, shorter bolts wouldn't reach. I will be scouring salvage yards to find some genuine ones like yours, and source the correct bolts from a Citroen dealership maybe. Regards crossbars, are your rails kind of triangular in profile? I have used my old Shogun Thule brand ones successfully in the past on various vehicles with rails that have a triangle type profile. Thule ones are very strong box section and have never failed me yet.
They are triangular Andy, maybe even 4 sided but still triangular in shape if that makes sense (no geometry shaming please lads lol) and so thick that you can grasp them with your full hand and just touch finger tip to thumb tip

Yes the Thule ones would definitely work then, they also lock.

If you use the full reply editor, then look down to the left there is an attachment function so you don't need to use a hosting service - click "choose file" button, select the image or attachment, click "add attachment" on the right, then post your reply or thread. The quick-reply window has no buttons for attachments, only the full editor. See the attached image....
