Took it in today and they put coder on it and came up with nothing at all! No obvious reason for the EML coming on although since Friday it hasn't.

Running fine, only cost £25 so very happy with that  Big Grin

Think it was threat of the Basil Fawlty procedure as, believe me , I have considered it Rolleyes


A temperamental 1.6 HDI Doggie Van
I have just read the post trail. I noticed somewhere a question was asked on which oil is used, but no specific answer given other than it was of Total brand. It worries me a lot because these modern common rail diesel engines, everything boils down to the type of oil used, and specifically the early 1.6hdi versions do have a major weakness on the lubrication system. 
Given that you have suffered previous turbo failures, which are indication of lubrication system failure, I believe you really need to take control of that one major aspect - the grade of oil used, as it is key to your happy motoring. You need to appreciate the recommended grade and enforce its use during service.

Yes, I have noted that Idea The new garage that I used have recommended low ash oil and the boss there said so many problems are caused by the wrong oil being used. I guess my poor old engine has never had low ash oil put in it  Sad It will be due for a service soon so it will be sorted thanks  Smile

Which grade specifically? I believe it should either be 5W40 or 5W30 fully synthetic.
Don't know but will discuss it with the garage as they told me something I didn't know!
