Changing a head unit
#1
Hi all
I have a berlingo van 2018 with the 7" head unit ant want to change it for an android multimedia head unit.
But the connector iso plug thats in the van looks nothing lie i can find.
The only wires in the back of it are going into the little white connector and I cannot seem to match it to anything i have found online
I have taken a piccy of it to show.
Any ideas ?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

It's not iso, it's a Fakra connector. The rest of the connections are to the top section. It's controlled over CANBUS and you lose a few functions of the onboard computer if you swap it out for an aftermarket set. Search the forum, plenty of threads on the swap.

Hi Zion, I saw in your post that you removed your 7” touch screen. I want to remove mine and had the two screws out at the top but couldn’t see anything else to remove. It was slightly slack but didn’t want to force it.

Hi, you still need to use a set of removal keys to remove the touch screen. Insert them into the holes at each side to unlock and pull the unit out of the dash.

If you want to sell it, PM me mate. I'm looking to put one in now, but not at daft prices like eBay.

Hi, thanks for your speedy response, I don’t seem to have the holes for removing tools it’s all pretty flush. I just want to add a live through a switch as the radio doesn’t play when the ignition is off and it only lasts a few minutes with ignition on and engine not running.

Ok first thing was to remove a small panel from the top part. You could then access two torx screws.

That allows it to be prised up at the back and then pulled off toward you.

Then put a flat object like a dinner knife in one side and push the head unit over and at the same time lever it out, go to the other side and do the same and out it comes. There are flat stereo removal keys available for this but you need to know where to slot them in as below

To get it fully out you have to remove two plugs from the top unit as they come through the top of the dash and only allow removal so far.

By the way, all Citroen head units are Canbus controlled, so you're unlikely to be able to fit a switched live to it. The whole electrical system shuts down 20 mins after engine off, and drops into eco mode. This can't be turned off. Nothing is live inside the entire vehicle after the timer expires, until you start the engine again.

Even if you identify the live supplied by the BSI to power it on, you may trigger a fault if you power that line from a separate live supply. The only permanent supply possible is fused direct from the battery or engine fusebox.

(20-03-2021, 11:28 AM)hi Zion ok good advice about the Canbus, I think I will leave well alone, it’s just that over the lockdown we send a lot of time at the beach and it’s annoying leaving thee engine running ?. Spoke to three main dealers here in the north east of Scotland and one of them could explain as good as you. Thanks Wrote:  Ok first thing was to remove a small panel from the top part. What about charging a Bluetooth speaker from the car while driving and then use that for the tunes at the beach by linking it to your phone, use radioplayer app if it's radio you want, it's free DAB.
