[Engine] Fault Code P000E
#1
We have a 2013 Berlingo Multispace with 1.6/115PS diesel engine. It's currently on c104k miles.

We use it to tow a caravan and on Tuesday we returned on a normal road/motorway route of approx 3rs dropping the caravan at the storage yard.

Returned home via local Tesco where we topped up the fuel from half full to full in preparation for a journey the following day.

Half a mile later the orange triangular warning light came on with 'attention getter' bleep and the message 'Engine Fault' scrollong on the central screen. Enfgine went into limp mode - wouldn't rev over 3,000rpm.

After a stop the light goes out but reappears 15-20 seconds after re-start.

I have a cheap generic (Aldi) OBD code reader which is picking up just on code; P000E. Web searching suggests this means Fuel Volume Regulator Control Exceeded Learning Limit.

It's booked in for diagnosis tomorrow but would welcome views on outcomes I might expect.

Thanks in anticipation.....

First thought would be the fuel pressure regulator on the rail, sticking open I guess. But, only a guess as it's the one thing that controls fuel pressure to the injectors. The HP pump can make more pressure than required at any given rpm below the redline, and if the FPR malfunctions at moderate rpm the ECU would see the change in expected rail pressure.

If it is this, it's very awkward to get to but not a massively expensive part. Could take a couple of hours labour to change it. Famously mounted in a really awkward place to stop people messing with it.

On that note, do you have a tuning box?? If so, there's your problem right there Wink

Lots of people who tow caravans, fit "tuning boxes" to boost power and give extra low down grunt for pulling. They do work, but when they go wrong you get this kind of fault appearing (or no start) and removing the tuning box or fitting the bypass cable (if it came with one) will usually resolve it.

If you don't know, ask the garage - as they'll spot it right away if it does have one - if so, just get it removed first and see what happens. Yeah you will notice a drop off in power but reliability should return.

Thanks for that Zion.

No tuning box, everything is as it left the factory and the 115PS diesel has all the grunt needed for our 1200kg Xplore 304 'van.

The fault code refers to the Fuel Volume Regulator which I understand is a different item to the Fuel Pressure Regulator.

Car was left at garage this morning. They say it's a fault with the pump that adds EOLYS fluid to the tank after a fuel fill - pump is burned out. They also mentioned the EOLYS fluid was low which is a bit odd as they refilled it a year or so, or around 10k miles, ago. Estimated cost is a whisker short of £500.

Mmm weird. The Eolys bag should last 100k miles from full. That code doesn't exist in PSA world either, it's a generic thing picked up by your scanner somehow. I have the official PSA code document and there is no P000E that I can find. It exists online in generic lists but not under any Citroen or Peugeot codes. They didn't adopt that particular code and some one error codes are dependent on manufacturers specific choices as to what they mean..

Anyway if your pump is burned out, it could have leaked the fluid away so that would explain the low level.

The original EOLYS fluid ran out at about 95k and produced a specific 'top up' message on the car's central screen. I expressed surprise that it had run out but as you say it may have leaked if the pump's shot.
