1.6 petrol poor idle

When you think about it, that word's a cobble together of some very archaic terms - actually reminds me more of Dr. Who (telephone box) than Star Trek (Van der Graaf / Fritz Lang's Metropolis). Though I do now remember phone box style teleporters on Earth in the recent JJ Abrams Star Trek films.

I think we will all have to gradually get used to shorter distance travel as a normality, and prohibitively expensive/inconvenient longer distances of the length we are used to now. After all, most of us have only been used to such distances without thinking about them for a few decades.

Electric car technology is fine just so long as we don't mind living in an island of power stations surrounded by offshore wind turbines as backdrops to seaside resorts, their stems resembling cell window bars.

Putting up multitudes of turbines in the path of the Jet Stream will begin to degrade or divert it... who would have thought 50 years ago that we could do anything to the ozone layer, or to the ocean's depths, or to the stuff we breathe?
