timing issues

hi all,my mechanic changed the timing belt on my 1.9 non turbo berlingo yesterday.

Now,it never ever never struggled to start but now takes ages.
Obviously I aint happy ,peeded right off in fact as this berlingo has never let me down and ALWAYS started first key turn,  now no way and he said he sort it as her reckons advance timing out.
I get that and if he had screwed up timing it would not run would it ??
It runs ok but if I turn off and start again, black smoke and lack of power initially.
I jus want to have some info ready , thanks for any help

I doubt very much that it valve timing that out as valves could get tangled up with the pistons.
Could be ignition time though.

thanks I don't hink he locked it out correctly.I assume you would have to take off crank pulley  ?

Hi
either he's not set the crankshaft or the injection pump position correctly.

Some people just mark the pulleys position then stick a new belt on.        Doing it like than can cause problems.  

  I'm not saying he's done it like that.
   
Should be done by the book then its right.  Cant go wrong then

That is exactly what I think he done. I will ask him to show me how he locked it up I am looking for tipex  
If he done it correct then front drivers wheel would have been off,guess what,it aint as I marked it before hand (do all my wheels for safety checks )  and not touched trust me

Like Brodfather says, the injector pump timing has to be right as well as the valve timing on the 1.9d engine. If the valves are wrong, it could cause damage, the pump being wrong might cause the problems you have. There's a Haynes manual on here that will show how to set the timing with pins or drill bits, and plenty on the net for the 1.9d engine. The 2.0 & 1.6 HDi engines don't care about the pump timing so maybe your mechanic has got a bit confused.
