2007 berlingo abs fault

Hi I wondered if anyone could give me some advice i recently changed the rear axle in my 2007 berlingo van. I put a picasso rear axle into it which fits perfectly however after changing the axle the abs light came on. I replaced both rear abs sensors and took it a drive but the light is still on. Do I need to clear the fault with a lexia diag tool ? I have an obd reader but it isn't bringing up any abs faults. Many thanks for any help

ABS faults reset themselves if everything is ok, your OBD reader may not be communicating with the ABS system correctly hence no faults showing.

One of the reluctor rings on the picasso axle could be defective or they could have the wrong number of teeth / pulses for your system.

Hi thanks for the reply. I've plugged it into two different computers and still nothing coming up. When i switch the van on there's no light at first then it comes on after a minute. However the van hasn't moved anywhere which makes me wonder if it is the reluctor rings. Thanks

I see your point.

Was the ABS ok before the axle change?
Is the brake fluid level ok?
Check the sensor connections at the plug, make sure these are clean & in perfect condition.

Thanks again for your reply. Abs was perfect before axle change. I cleaned the rear plugs etc when putting in rear sensors maybe I will have to clean the front ones. Levels are fine will check wiring etc still nothing in diagnostic computers.

As a test you could try unplugging a wheel sensor and see how the light behaves, it should come on straight away, if it does it shows the system is noticing a fault and it's working as it should.

If all was well with the ABS before the axle change and the brake fluid level is ok I would rule out the front sensors plugs.

You've changed the rear sensors and the condition is still the same, if I were in your shoes now I would be changing the rear reluctor rings to the ones from your old axle (I'm assuming you still have the old axle)

The rings on the picasso axle may have more or less segments and this is being noticed by the system even though you aren't moving, sounds a long shot but something is causing the problem and the ABS system can be sensitive.

Just a thought, the B9 uses magnetic bearings in the rear discs instead of reluctor rings, maybe the Picasso does too and aren't compatible with the ABS system on the M59. I don't know if the M59 uses reluctor rings or mag bearings.

As JJ suggested, get PSA DiagBox and a Lexia interface, don't use a generic scan tool as it won't work properly to the level you need to diagnose this kind of issue. DiagBox will tell you why the abs controller isn't happy, in detail.

Yeah, the M59 rear reluctor rings are show as either being the stepped tooth version or magnetic strip version (it looks like an oil seal) that is removable from the hub.
