Who's got the oldest Berlingo on the road?

I only have an M59 but I got overtaken by a white R reg First (rear barn doors) on the M25 today.

I was sure it had to be a private plate - a Berlingo that old? - until I got home and checked out the year range of the M49 on this forum.

Got me wondering - has anyone here got an R reg, or even a P or an N?

As we all know on here the first generation Berlingo van is a tough little beggar I have a ‘t’ reg 99 van straight as a dye and it’s going great, I get stick for how old it is but I don’t care it’s cheap to run and it does have character.

I'd need a very fair wind and a lot of luck, but it would be nice to get say another 8 years our of my 2003 version.

The model with the meanest glare(low headlights) and the ragtop.

If it is a genuine R reg is cannot be a First asthet were produced after the introduction of then B9 in 2008.

We have a W reg 3 door Multispace in the family. I like cars that are as simple as possible and don't like to rust. This has been a good one although 1.8 petrol is not the most economical engine. Does anyone know if the very earliest diesel multispace are fitted with the Xud engine or had dw8 been fitted by then? Just thinking that a computer free diesel multispace would be my favourite option

Can't tell you about the Multispace/DW8 but I did have a C15 Van with the XUD in 1.7 form that was a write off - guy that collected it dropped the engine into a Partner van - that maybe a bit of work but you'd get the mechanical fuel setup that way?
So kind of thinking of a later model Berlingo with a blown engine replaced with a XUD from some rusty but low mileage 1996/2000 PSA car?

This into that? (Ok the Berlingo's a bit ratty but you get the idea? We get some vicarious spannering joys and you get skinned knuckles and lose ££££s)

Thanks Grahame. The good old days when you could test an engine with a battery and gallon can on a pallet and it just had to fit.
