Rear-mounted bike carrier?

Planning a camping trip next summer, so bikes will have to go on the back rather than inside (will have roof box on). I don't want the expense of fitting a tow bar if I can help it. Anyone successfully used a rear carrier? It seems Saris Bones and some of the Thule ones might work. Are the bikes likely to sit above the lights and reg plate with these (again, would be good to avoid having to wire in a lighting board)? 2014 Berlingo Multispace.

hi Mrsjom. I just came across your post as I have the very same issue. I am not even planing to open the boot of the Berlingo with bikes on it, so not sure if this makes a difference re having a bike carrier on it with 2 kids bikes on it. Have you managed to find a solution for your camping trip? thanks
