I drove the wife's BMW Mini Cooper the other day when the van was off the road for the blower fan job, and it's hard as a rock but doesn't clonk at all.
I might remove the rear spare cage, I have 17" alloys anyway and the spare is an old 15" steel. I have a tyre inflator and plenty of tyreweld for any puncture events anyway.
Let me know how you get on if you remove the cage.
does sound like its coming from that area.....

It's going in the bin, never mind checking it.

Nah lol I'm not posting a spare wheel and cage. I'll chuck it in the local tip next time I'm there. I have a storage unit so I'll put it in there for the time being.

When i took it to my mechanic and asked him about the knock, he checked it out and could not find any movement in the bushes top and bottom though he seemed to know about the knocking on the Berlingo.
Now that i have no knocking now discovered another one, seems to be coming from the rear sliding door or maybe the draw with the cooker in it, have not checked yet.
As for getting under a car i have never liked working on cars, I can get down there, it's the getting up thats not so good. I'll stick to working on bikes, much better.
As for old git i'm a 1948 vintage.
Strange you should mention your rear sliding door noise, I'm hearing a new noise around my rear sliding door too (drivers side), especially when reversing...?
I think a 1948 vintage may just qualify for an 'old git' label haha.
For me this top mount design is rubbish, the type that are actually bolted to the inner wing seem a lot sturdier, but hey ho..
Someone said that the Multispace's are basically a van conversion, which is true, so I suppose these van like noises are par for the course...

The technical term for the van is a car derived van but since right at the beginning ithe van came out before the car I find it a bit strange. The sliding doors though only came in with the car version
The french though had a habit of taking a van and fitting windows and seats, before the Berlingo Citroen did it with the C15 and Renault with their van. Most major car comanies have now jumped on the band wagon
