Im not a huge fan of this “downsizing”. Nowadays engine are build to be as clean as possible and they sqeez every bit of power out of everything putting a huge stress on the components and tight tolerances will make reliability a bit iffy.
But besides that, the engine will do but dont expect any miracles. Its not as bad as the old 1.4 but it aint great either

They claim double the torque of my trusty 1.4i.
I'm not exactly certain how they get that, and for how long if can sustain it before it decides to ventilate the crankcase with a piston...
Honestly, I'm waiting for the 1.4 engine in the VW Caddy I drive at the office to detonate.
(They've squeezed 130bHp out of it. Sure, tuners have gotten 138bHp out of the BSA TU3 14i, but they generally know what they do. )
At least it's not the 1.9 Diesel...
Don't expect to set a new record for Berlingos on the Nurburgring.

If you goggle "Citroen Berlingo 1.2 PureTech engine review" you'll get lots of interesting stuff. For example
The 108bhp three-cylinder petrol engine is the best compromise for the Berlingo. It’s quiet and very willing to pull from low revs and has a surprisingly strong mid-range, too. Plus you can expect reasonably good fuel economy and low CO2 emissions.

In other words, don't bother putting your foot down.
The Puretech engine is brilliant; smooth even when pulling below 2000rpm in higher gears and surprisingly strong in the 3000-4000rpm range, although outright performance is nothing special and there’s little point in revving the meaty little turbo engine beyond 5500rpm.

Told you so!
The 110hp 1.2-litre petrol unit is a perky, flexible engine and is quiet and smooth. It has a decent bit of mid-range torque too and pulls well from low revs, while the six-speed manual gearbox is well suited to it, although the change can feel a little clunky at times. However, if you are going to be regularly carrying a load of passengers and cargo you may be better opting for the smooth and surprisingly refined 130hp diesel model, which has a bit more grunt. It also comes with the new eight-speed automatic transmission, which is slick, quick and smooth in operation.

some certain engine/gearbox combinations were quietly discontinued in 2019.

Might be worth finding out which ones.
This one compares the 1.2 PSA engine against some other 3-cylinder ones.
