Rear view mirror help, using a generic brand
#1
Information
I had my windscreen replaced this morning and the rear view mirror from the cracked one could not be removed as it had been glued in place.

I'm currently struggling to source one locally and wondered does it have to be a Citroen Berlingo specific model or (as in the old days) can you still buy and fit universal rear view mirrors?

Cheers for any advice folks

Sam

Lets hope the new windscreen doesn't leak. If the fitter couldn't refit the mirror (which is a bog standard type fixing nowadays) it doesn't say too much for for his skill. If one of the big companies then I would be complaining like mad as the job has not been completed. Most windscreen co's carry replacement sticky pads for just this reason.

If it's been glued on with something other than a sticky pad he's not going to get it off. Superglued ones will break the screen trying to take them off.
So where does this bit go then ?

But the screen has already been changed so breaking of the old one in removing the mirror is not an issue.

I bet you I can get that mirror off the old screen. If you cant cut/saw through the glue, for most glue there is a solvent out there.
Or just take the mirror off (its a balljoint) and get a new windscreenmount.

Seriously what disabled monkey fitted that windscreen?

It was a funny do all round actually. texted me on Thursday to say he was 30 minutes away and could I find somewhere dry to drive to. I was working from home so no that wasn't an option.

He arrived, shrugged his shoulders and said as it was raining I would have to rearrange a slot over the weekend.

I didn't rearrange but he texted me on Friday and said he was on his way (it wasn't raining ) . He fitted the new windscreen and then told me that the previous owner must've glued the mirror on ( bear in mind, I'm supposed to be working here) and he couldn't get it off but I could get one from a scrap yard for a fiver.

The new screen has the fitting attached as standard and I've found one in a scrap yard in Bradford for £15 with £3 postage ☹️. I bought a £3 temporary one today as I had to drive over the tops in the snow and needed something to see if any wagons were sliding towards my rear end out of control ?

One who only carries screen fitting equipment and not solvents and is on the clock so he doesn't have an hour spare to sort out someone else's bodge. A suction mirror is a perfectly good solution and you can fit it in any position you want. Lots of vans have blocked in rear doors and no centre mirror. Disabled monkey is a bit much.

For a botch sure. For any half decent fitter its normal service.

I'm a bit late to this party, but I find it incredible that this guy was willing to hand your car back to you in an unroadworthy and illegal condition. It wouldn't pass an MOT without the rear view mirror. You have grounds for complaint.

Having said that, as a trucker I find them distracting at best and the one in my car points permanently at the headlining!
