V6 sleeper
#1
Smile
Hi all, I'm dreaming for almost two years now of a V6 Berlingo. After seeing a video of a kangoo with a megane 225 engine I was immediatly sold of the concept! My uncle has a few Citroen XM's with the later V6 engine, ES9J4 is that. 190bhp. As the XM's are standing in his yard for a few years, some of them are quite rusty, so he offered me an engine if I wanted it. It still has a bit of work because it stood for at least 6 years without running.
When I heard I could have one of the engines I started searching if it would be possible to swap the engine in a Berlingo, which was apparently done before, and with the Berlingo being based on a Xsara/306, it wasn't even that difficult!
So after a long time I finally had the time to get the engine out of the XM, and ship it to me (my uncle lives 800km's from me). Now I'm in the process of a light rebuild (timing belt, spark plugs, starter motor refurb,... The engine has only 125k km's on the clock, so no major work expected.

After I got the engine home, I wen't looking for a Berlingo, which took me half a year. A month ago I finally found the perfect box for the engine!
I was looking for a gray/white one, before BSI introducement in combination with A/C. Wasn't easy to find! Drove 5hrs one way for this gem.  Big Grin
Don't mind the decals, they're soon off. The car is in good condition, 290k km's on the clock, but was good serviced because it belonged to a company. The only thing wrong with it is the head gasket is blown, which ofcourse isn't a problem in this case. A/C should work, rear brakes were replaced last year,...

This really is the perfect sleeper combo imo. Light, fun, practical car, with a powerfull engine, that's reliable and is even quite economically (although the car won't be driven daily it's still a nice bonus when I want to use it for a roadtrip).

Well done on finding the car you wanted.

I like the blue side stripes and flames - base a custom paint job on them!

Thanks for the support!

The next big thing on the list is the electronics. The wiring diagram for the engine was broadly available. The wiring for the Berlingo seems to be a lot harder. Any pointers where to look?

Just the sort of conversion I'd love to do if I had the ability.

I've often wondered if the 2.2Hdi from the first C5 would drop in, drove one in France years ago.

Another that got away was a GS1220 engine in a Dyane, I had the makings of that but life got in the way.

I've just been looking at another V6 sleeper - an Allegro!

Think of it like a square, squashed Berlingo.

There are some drawings in the Haynes book, but yeah, they're not very useful.

Which year is that Berlingo, and which engine?

Does it have LCD gauges or old dial gauges?
