Responses please: fuel guage not working!

Fuel gauge is not working, it rests on empty with the light on.

As far as I am aware there is a 'sender' in the tank with wires going to the gauge itself.

Could anyone put forward valid ideas as how to find out what is at fault (the sender, the wiring or the gauge) that I could have a go at myself in an old-fashioned way (I don't have access to computer diagnostics).

I would be very grateful!

The sender in the tank works on a ballcock type setup ( i think) they some time corrode on the pickup id start there.

HI, if you disconnect the wire from the outside of the tank , then with the ignition on put it to earth on the body, the fuel gauge should rise to full, that means the transmitter in the tank is at fault, if the guage does not go up, its the dashboad out and check the guage etc, hope this is helpfull.
