Hi there, for some time now I have had a water temp warning light coming on at random from cold. It stops flashing once the temp has reached normal. The temp gauge reads normal and the coolant level is too, I check the level regularly just to be safe. Am I correct in thinking that its the coolant temp sensor playing up and if so, where is it please?

You dont say what engine it is but it could be a faulty temp sensor or possibly wiring to it that is causing the problem.
Are we there yet?????

I had that on my 2.0Hdi and it was the sensor. Had it replaced at a local garage so no help re the location.
Not sure if it could have some bearing but my car has been parked sideways on a very steep drive for the last 3 years (still in use, not parked up). It has regularly had various warnings for coolant, oil, brakes but everything has checked out every time.
It now gets parked on level ground and seems to have improved, time will tell.

Follow the top rad hose back to the engine block, the sensor must be there somewhere as the hose meets the engine block at the head usually. Most are green with one or two wires coming from them. One wire if they are screwed into a metal thermostat housing or two if the housing is plastic.
