ECU problem
#1
Hi guys, I wold like to change ECU and BSI on my Berlingo 1.6 hdi, coz my one is broken and Citroën dealers are open after new year, I want to buy from ebay and I like to know what need to be done after I change it. Thank you for quick answer. I need to change coz existing one probably broken after diagnostic in Lexia 3. No wipers, no radio, no main lights, and STOP red light. Or if someone can help me get back existing one, all fuses and wiring is good. Probably ecu need pairing with BSI and stop solenoid... Don't know[Image: 2fcb4dbb3c133f8f96d0c026635815ee.jpg]

Ok, the functions you describe are controlled by the BSI and not the engine ECU.

If you change the ECU, it needs to be unlocked (the line requesting key authorisation from the BSI must be deleted) but the ECU would need the software edited to achieve this and not using Lexia / Diagbox. Although the loss of the things you mention are most likely to be a faulty BSI.

What year is the vehicle? You can buy (or have carried out) a virginised BSI which then needs coded to your car's functions (cruise, wiper control etc) by Lexia & DiagBox.

How did you come to think it had been killed by Lexia? Did you or someone else use the "reset controller" function on the BSI or ECU from DiagBox ?

You can swap in a pair of units from a scrap car, with the identical part numbers to your old units, (ECU & BSI) and then you either need to change the locks, barrel and keys to the new ones or code your old keys to the new BSI. I have never tried to code a replacement key from another car to the existing BSI or the other way round, but it should be possible to do. That way, you keep your own keys, locks and ignition barrel.

Remember there are 3 levels of BSI, low medium and high function versions denoted by a code on the label - if you take a lower spec one than your original you won't be able to code all the functions you already have.

Before changing the unit try the BSI Reset procedure as this may cure your faults:

Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off.

Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition.

Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds.

Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.).

Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.

Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality.

Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.

Remove key open & close door test central locking system.

Start the engine and complete the system's check.

I've attached the Citroen Technical Training manual on the Multiplexed BSI as used in the Xsara and Picasso, very similar if you have a B9 but it shows all of the functions you have lost are not in the ECU but are definitely controlled by the BSI.

Others with an M59 may find this document useful, I'll post it in the howto section as well.

I try reset BSI but still engine not running, looks like something stop to start engine, problem is when I try lexia I deleted something... And don't know what was it. I need probably pair ECU with BSI, but don't know how to do it. (Carried out checks found vehicle is in eco mode Carried out checks of fuses all ok Found no comms with dlc and no 5v feed to ecu suspect faulty ecu unit requires further investigation Customer unsure of what to do offered to tow vehicle to Citroen they're unopen advised to speak with dealer and mobile mechanics Mvehicke required intensive further investigation Engine Oil Level Ok. Coolant Level Ok.) this is message from the AA guy who try to help me.

Have you tried a new battery? Stuck in eco mode means the battery is bad normally. If the battery is new then it could be the smart charge module, built into the positive terminal. It's also possible you have blown an MF fuse, they are hidden in a compartment under the normal fuses in the engine bay fusebox.

You cannot see or test them unless you remove the whole fuse tray and they are hidden under it.

I for one certainly do - it includes details on vanbus signals which I haven't been able to get hold of.
