Monochrome Display has chucked it???
#1
Hi there,

I have now purchased the newer K9 version of the berlingo to add on top of the two B9 versions I currently have. However none of the other two have screens so don’t have any experience with them. The new one has the monochrome display with apply play. It was working then switched of while ticking over tonight and I can’t seem to find anyway to get it on again. The button works to turn the radio on and off but nothing on the display and none of the touch buttons work either.

Is there a way to reset or reboot it? I have read though here and don’t see anything similar. I have seen on a google search that once the dash exceeds a certain temperature it deactivates. I’m just wondering with it being cold and the heating being on full that it has surpassed this temperature and it’s deactivated itself. Other than that I think it will need to go to Citroen but they are 3 weeks for booking at min. Big problem is I’m unable to modify any setting if I can’t see what I’m doing.

Thanks

Ian

A very long shot - different display (MFD) and model (M59) - but it would be easy and free if it worked:

Hi Rasputin,

Totally forgot I had posted this sorry. The problem persisted for a day or two then disappeared on its own and has never returned. Very weird but not sure if it was just a glitch or something. I will keep the thread you shared in mind for the future.

Thanks

When it's cold and damp my M59 display loses whole chunks of numbers but they usually come back after it warms up.
So where does this bit go then ?

In modern cars it's common to see all kinds of electrical weirdness when the battery level drops just a bit from normal.

It could be that the LCD segments, being a liquid crystal hence the name, are sluggish when cold. If so, then maybe the old idea of using a painted light bulb as a fish tank night heater might work:

Fit a 12v filament bulb (i.e. one that gets warm when on, not an LED) somewhere inside the display casing, paint it black so its light doesn't cause unwanted problems, and have it wired to be on whenever the ignition is on, to warm up the LCD panel.

You could also add a little thermistor so it only comes on when it's cold outside, to save power.

To be fair mate I would go to all that hassle since it’s brand new. It would be worth a shout if it was older but if I was getting continuous problem then Citroen would just be told to fix it under warranty. It happened when it was very hot so I think it’s probably cut out until it has cooled down and since it’s not really been run for a long period with the heating on we have never seen a repeat of it again.

There is a software update for the head units , not sure how you go about doing the upgrade but I am told you can do it via the app where you download an update on a usb drive and plug it in.

We had a Grand Picasso that would so the same when it was hot - you could also never close the dashboard vents in the winter with warm air as this would also cause the display to disappear

Can anyone confirm whether these displays run on the canbus network? And what info do they display?

I'm being very ambitious and it would take an age, but I hope to modify the MFD in M59s, and there may just be scope, and a longer life-cycle in terms of market demand, for 'improving' these K9 displays too, perhaps by replacing them with better display technology such as OLED panels.

A long shot of course, and into the dark.
