Windshield washer gremlins
#1
Good morning all and though im a bit late, I wish you all the best for 2021 Smile

Im gonna start the year with some minor issues on the car;

I have a leak between the washerfluid bottle and the fillerneck. The rubberwasher is gone, and I suspect the old plastic to be cracked. I fixed it for now with some tape, but I was wondering if there is a more permanent solution for this. I tried finding a replacement fillerneck, or even a bottle but it seems nobody sells them anymore.

But the bigger issue is the windshield washers. the washer dont actually hit the windshield, but sort of blast over it with little hitting the windshield before being blown away.
According to Haynes the jets are not adjustable, so I have no idea on how to fix this problem. (Maybe new jets would be the answer, but again unable to source the parts)

As you have found out the washer bottle is in to parts ie the tank and the filler neck with an o ring sitting in a groove on the tank. A new o ring is an easy fix from a plumbers but if the tank is cracked your best bet is a breakers or ebay. The jets are adjustable you just need a pin in the hole and gently move the brass jet in its holder to the correct position. You may need a bit of wd40 or the like as over the years the brass bit seizes in the plastic holder. Ps when putting the neck on the tank be careful not to displace the o ring use some silicone grease or if you want a flexible seal try LSX plumbing sealant.
Are we there yet????? Huh

If the jets are not adjustable then I would suspect that there is a bit of crud inside the jet that is disturbing the the water flow. Ideally the jet assembly needs to be removed and given a good clean out from the pipe connection end. A very fine wire pushed into the jet hole may well dislodge the obstruction. You've only got to look at the gunge that accumulates in the washer tank to see what I mean.

I had to adjust the old van scooshers, using a needle but you have to watch you don't snap the needle in the jet. With the needle inserted and wd40 used (good call) the needle points to where the water will go. Use the thickest needle that will fit in the hole. I also used a map pin, worked really well as it's not hardened like a needle. Tends to bend rather than snap.

Thanks guys, it turns out the jets are somewhat adjustable (f*ck Haynes, its not the first time this manual has been off)

But after a tank of fluid, two hours of cursing and a scratch on the paint later im still not happy. I mean its a little better and I would say usable, but the jets either are still a bit too high, or too low. And on the right hand side the outer jet blasts a bit too far to the edge of the windscreen.

Think im gonna call that one, lets not forget she's French and 13 years old Smile
Didnt have time to check the bottle, ran out of daylight Sad

You can adjust them in all directions, not just up/down. Try a safety pin, they are also flexible, and longer if you straighten them out. In this weather, it might even help if you can warm the nozzles somehow. I would also move them around in all directions to clear any stickiness or blockage, before doing actual adjustment.

Yerr I can see 13 years ago they might have been able to move arround Big Grin
Maybe some WD40 and some heat will help
