I've got a 65 reg and I've had issues with the headlight adjustment today, I noticed a whiring noise at the drivers headlight. When the adjustment dial is moved, the passenger side light moves as it should, but the drivers side doesn't move(stays in highest position). The motor is always running though. How can I see if the motor has disconnected the mechanism or something has come apart or broken?

I had the same problem on a Volvo a few years ago. In the end, I disconnected the wiring to the motor on both sides after adjusting the switch to mid position. I manually adjusted the broken side to match.
Sounds like you need a new adjuster mechanism, put your VIN into catcar.info to get the part number and/or check out breakers on eBay.
