Hi there,
I was just doing some simple stuff on a recently purchased 2004 (1.4 petrol desire). The radio "didn't work" when I bought it, and the digital display wasn't much better (you could just barely making out some flashing characters one you started the engine).
The radio seemed to be a simple fix - it wasn't plugged in. I think someone had something after market in it at some point, and just put back the original when shifting it, but never plugged it in. There was a pass-through/piggyback cable going from the stereo cables to the fuse box - F6, to be precise, which had an extra 10a fuse, but wasn't plugged in (picture of radio side cables and fuse box side piggyback attached).
I took one of the 10a fuses from the piggyback, put it into F6, and removed the piggyback cable and the other extra radio pass-through cables. I plugged the original cables into the radio et voila - sound. I mention all this mostly because it may be relevant to the bigger issue(s).
I then needed to deal with the display. After some snooping around on here it looked like I needed to replace the bulbs on the display. I did that, I had light, but it was showing garbage (see attached). However, what was being displayed would change when I adjusted the radio/stations. To see if maybe there was something loose behind the LCD panel I gave it a little push with my finger. It cracked. So if it wasn't broken before, it is now and I need to replace it. However, that may or may not solve the underlying issue.
So, here are my questions:
1) Any idea what was up with the display before I broke it? Was it already broken, or is there perhaps some other issue, maybe related to the connection from the radio which may be related to the previous stereo?
2) What do I need to replace it? A whole new unit ("Citroen Berlingo Single Line Display Centre Dash Clocks 96616373XT F00" seems to bring up options), or can you replace just the LCD screen?
Sorry for the long post. Any help appreciated!
