My first car was a very s**t LDV ambulance I bought off ebay. I thought it'd be funny to drive my mates around in it. I think it had a Rover V8.
I thought I'd be in deep s**t with my parents for buying it so I kept it around the town my school was in, which was not where I lived. It was particularly stupid because I was getting the bus in to get to the van. Worse still, I was so scared my parents would find out I barely even told anyone at school about it.
Being 17 I didn't think ahead, and I almost went broke after giving it a tank of fuel. Mate of mine did some back of the napkin maths and we realised it was getting single digit mpg. It got sold before I even moved off temporary insurance.

Bought a used Escort in my early twenties. Celebrated with my mate by getting drunk AF and then gunned it up and down the (private) road leading up to our house. The (dirt) road was in terrible shape after that.

I've already posted in this thread, but today I remembered another one. Not sure it ranks as stupidest, maybe just a wee bit daft.
Anyway, about 10 years ago I had a venus fly trap plant growing in a small pot. It liked to be kept moist, ideally with rain water, so one night, when rain was forecast, I put it outside so it could get a drenching. For some reason, I decided it would be safest if I put it on the roof of my M49 van.
The next day I left for work quite early (7am) when it wasn't very light. I drove the 12 miles or so of mostly urban roads with lots of junctions, turns, stops and starts, and a couple of hilly sections (and at least one very tight mini-roundabout with an adverse camber). When I arrived at work and got out of my van, in the early morning light I could see on the roof was my venus fly trap in its pot, still sitting inside its saucer that had water in it...

Hahaha, how did it manage to stay on... It had probably trapped the Berlingo thinking it was a fly;-)

Hee hee! You'd certainly pass the old eggs in a saucer test then!
Did you give the plant to your boss as a present?

I've got a roof rack fitted, which would've helped restrain it, but the odd thing is that I didn't hear it sliding around while driving, and it was upright when I arrived at work. I'm guessing that the paint finish on the roof - which had acquired a kind of 'patina' over the years, lol - gave it something to grip to...

I think he already thought I was a bit mad, so no need to assist him in his assessment, lol.....

Got in the back of my current van when it was new to work on the plylining.
Back door blew shut in the breeze and slightly latched.
After a few seconds the central locking auto locked.
No handle on the inside....
It was the first van I'd had with a side door so I didn't even think to look if it had one (it did).
I didn't want to force the back door so I waited until my son got home.
I shouted and banged the side.He thought I was messing about and ignored me.
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

Hahaha, I suspect it was not that funny at the time.
I had a similar, albeit not locking myself inside but outside and since then I always keep the keys in my pocket.
