[Brakes] handbreak fault
#1
Photo
hello!
i have a CITROEN BERL-LA 2011 van

my handbreak is very loose, and i am having a hard time reaching the bolt that tightens it. Under the seat there was a big kind of plastic box, and under there was a long plastic cover. I have to remove the cover to reach the bolt, but i did not understand how to remove it. the cover is in the picture with a lot of dirt on it. All help would be very appereciated! Smile

Would it be better to remove the seat ? There should only be 4 bolts, presuming the plastic thing is attatched to the seat.

For a loose handbrake I would start at the rear brakes and work towards the handbrake lever to find the fault and where to tighten it up.

If your cables have come out, they both have in your picture, then there is a fault with the callipers or the cables .
If you don’t understand how it works, and cars are not your thing, then you shouldn’t be trying to fix it ! Brakes are obviously safety critical.
I have only once had to repair one of these, when a cable got damaged by something on the road.
If you look at this picture (if I can post it) the black trigger releases the mechanism (from memory).
You shouldn’t really ever need to touch it.
I also vaguely remember it was very difficult to access & I removed the whole double passenger seat .
