The top of my gear knob is breaking up around the selection disc,I'd like to replace it but cant get it off,I've tried pulling it and unscrewing it but it wont budge,can anyone give me a bit of info on it ,thanks

Sadly not, the counterweight is bigger than the cheapo knob and is an intrinsic part of the original.
If a new genuine one comes up sometime I might consider it but it works OK.

I couldn't find a new genuine one, secondhand is not, as far as I can see, an option as they tend to get destroyed during removal. My replacement was about a fiver from Amazon.
There is a white plastic fitting on the lever, not sure if it is threaded or pinned on. This has flutes angled to enable the quarter turn and pulling off of the knob. Didn't take a pic of it unfortunately but the general consensus is that cutting it off give you a major headache. It's a common thing with contemporary PSA vehicles apparently.

so does the replacement knob fit over the fluted part or is that taken off as well ??

Ok biker once again thank you very much for your help ,job done now !!it came off intact with a heluva lot of pulling and twisting (i needed gas and air after it !!)i think the new one is similar to yours but it was ten pounds !! once again thanks
