[Brakes] Rear brake pipe routing
#1
I have a 55 plate 1.9d van, owned it from new and its still running.
Just failed it Mot last week on a corroded brake line.  This was the one connected to the brake cylinder on the rear nearside wheel its just a short pipe which comes from the hub and connects to a flexible hose at the other side of the rear axle.  The garage which did the mot replaced the pipe and also the same pipe on the other side of the van, as it was not much better than the one which caused the failure.

When I got the van back and had a look underneath, the routing of the replacement pipes does not look too good.

Would anyone be kind enough to take a picture of both brake drums, looking from under the back bumper. I would like to see the way these pipes fit correctly before I get back onto the garage.

The routing of the rear brake lines on the M59 isn't to great to start with tbh. I suppose it depends if you have a load sensing valve or ESP type van but either or i wouldn't worry to much as long as they are secure and not rubbing on anything it will be fine. when making brake lines its easier to make the length then bend it as you go when fitting makes it easier to rout it so they wont perfectly straight or routed as perfect as the factory but as long as they arent dangling lose or rubbing they will be fine.

Thanks for the information. I had a good look underneath and one side has been done near perfect, the other side is not too good. But as you say as long as they are safe I suppose it will be fine. When I dropped it off there were two different lads working on it , one on each side.
One of them is obviously more skilled than the other.
