[Transmission] query about securing clutch cable
#1
Berlingo 55 plate 1.9 diesel van.  I  have just had a mot done on this van. When it came back after having two brake lines replaced, I had a look underneath and checked things out.  While the bonnet was up I had a look around the engine bay as well.  Looking down the space behind the engine and the bulkhead, at the nearside, I noticed a hook attached to the crossmember next to the steering rack rubber boot. There is a power steering hose or maybe its the clutch cable running in line with this crossmember, this hose is unsupported and seems very close to the drive shaft coupling. I was wondering if this hook is meant to restrain this hose as it seems the right size.   I have attached photos to show the hook and the hose.  Could someone be kind enough to have a look under their bonnet and see how it is on their van please.

You can clearly see the hook and hose in the photos,  The rubber boot is the nearside steering rack boot.

Thanks for the reply,

It may be the clutch cable, for some reason I  assumed it was one of the power steering hoses.
I'll have to go out and have a good look at it.

Is the cable secured by the hook on your van?.  I did lift the cable up into the hook and gave it a short drive but it results in a faint tapping noise in the cab.  I'm guessing the cable is knocking against something when the van is in motion. All quiet when the cable is out of the hook, but it seems too close the the driveshaft to be safe.

Maybe a tie-wrap either with it as shown in the pic or hooked in place would secure it and stop the tapping?

Thanks for the suggestion,  I wont be using the van for a few days . Hopefully when the snow and ice clears I'll get underneath and have a good look. I now do think that this is the clutch cable and I'm  guessing that there is more than one retaining hook along the subframe.  I had the van in for some work on the steering rack a while back and I assume they lifted the cable off for access then did not bother to relocate it.
