Glow plug light out
#1
Hi all
Hope someone can help have a glow plug problem.
Glow plug light won't come on so I've changed plugs and relay still no light.
Now I notice that internal fan and radio are not working.
Lights on dashboard all on except glow plug.
I recently charged ignition.
Any ideas on fault?

What model of Berlingo, engine and year do you have? The glow plugs on the HDi don't come on until the temperature of the coolant is below zero c

Ok, there's no 1.9 HDi, if it's a 1.9D it needs the plugs on always to start. Check the fuses, especially a 40A MF fuse in the set hidden under the top fuses in the engine bay fuse box (have to remove the top tray of normal fuses to see the large MF ones) but it's likely more than one fuse is blown, engine bay or internal ones on the BSI in the driver's side dash. Glow plugs and radio / fan have totally separate fuses. Also not both driven from same source, fan and radio are from the BSI & it's fuses, engine glow plugs from engine ECU / fusebox.

Could be more than that wrong but check the obvious stuff first. Best if you can test the fuses, sometimes can be blown but not look bad by eye.

The top tray of fuses in the engine bay box may be riveted in. Once you get the tray out, there are a row of 5 or 6 fuses under there, they are very large. If any are blown, Halfords should do replacement ones.

Hi again
Have checked all the fuses now even the large hidden one's.
Checked with multimeter all good.
Are there any more fuses I'm missing?
Thanks for the help by the way??

Not for the glow plugs, there are fuses on the top of the BSI unit inside the cab under the dash at the driver's side but none of them do the glow plugs.

The glow plug relay is down in the gap behind the passenger headlight, or sometimes screwed to the inner wing below the battery - could start testing there to see if it's heavy feed is present. The ECU controls it directly to pass the heavy 12v feed through to the plugs tops.

First step would be to establish what engine the vehicle has, is it the 2.0 HDi or the 1.6Hdi or the 1.9D... if you don't know post a picture of the engine.

The glow plug warning light on the dash not lighting up doesn't mean the plugs aren't working.

Checking for power at the glow plugs with a test lamp would be my first step.
