I noticed my cruise control kept cutting off and messing me about for about the last 2 weeks, then one day I get ABS system fault bleep up on the dash ! This warning would sometimes disappear and sometimes stay on all day. Then half way home from work I get engine fault warning on my dash.
If you get this trouble try this first before spending out at a garage.
On the back side of both front wheel hubs behind the driveshaft gaiter there is a sensor. You will need a T27 star drive bit remove the bolt and wiggle it free this might be tight because what happens the hub rusts behind it and over time moves the sensor slightly and doesn't let the sensor sit where it should. This will explain the cruise control going crazy as it's not reading the speed correctly.
Anyway take it off and tap the surface with a chisel to remove the rust to let it go back on correctly and flat. I also used brake cleaner spray to give the sensor a good clean and I cleaned the rubber seal ring by holding a rag onto it and spinning the brake disc. Make sure you get all the loose rust off and re fit the sensor.
When I started the engine after I'd finished the abs fault light was still on but as soon as i moved the light turned straight off but the engine fault stayed on. When the abs light has disappeared turn off the car and start it back up and the engine fault light will hopefully now be gone.
A quick test drive down the A1 this proved the cruise control had stopped cutting off and was now working correctly.
It's free and easy to do yourself and worth trying before you seek advice you might have to pay for.
