Correct wheel bearing?

    Hi all, I’ve got my mechanic coming out to do front wheel bearing. I just want to check I’ve bought the right thing. 2009 M59.

These are what I’ve got. These look right to you?

Well it looks like a wheel bearing, circlip and driveshaft nut to me, you worry too much.

Thanks Geoff, yes I realise it’s a wheel bearing kit... because... well I bought it  My question was whether it’s the correct bearing for my model.

Do you have ABS? The bearings are the triggers on the B9, not sure if the M59 used the same system or the reluctor ring version. I did the brakes and discs when I had one of those but never had to do any ABS stuff on it.

Point being, if it does use a magnetic coded bearing then your ABS will fault and won't be recoverable till the right bearing is fitted again.

Just a heads up. Could be you don't have ABS or it uses reluctor rings instead so not an issue. (Unless the mechanic breaks it doing the bearing)

The M59 uses the reluctor ring system so has a standard bearing. (same bearing with or without ABS)

Does your mechanic have a welding set with him?

Chances are that the bearing will be rusted in place & the best way to get it out will be by running a bead of weld around the inside of the bearing shell. There are for sure other ways of getting the bearing out, but for me, taking it to the local garage was the way to go. One of the best Tenners I've spent.

 I'm lucky to own a hydraulic press so used a short piece of heavy hex bar to bridge the outer race and 3 tons of pressure later it was out. Without some means like this it's going to be very difficult to remove without causing some further damage. Good luck!
