[Engine] Knocking/pulling advice on B9
#1
Wink
Newbie here looking for some general B9 advice.
I own a 2012/13 Peugeot Partner Outdoor Tepee 115 (Berlingo equivalent) and began to notice some light knocking/shuddering noises from the engine compartment as I pulled away from junctions. Acceleration was relatively gentle but I still heard the noises - they almost sounded cyclic... So, on the return journey home from my shopping trip, the EOBD (Engine Management Warning Light?) came on and remained on WITHOUT flashing. The dash display stated an "engine fault", and I suspect the vehicle went into limp mode at that point - was only doing 40mph in a 50 zone as it was starting to snow heavily and most of the traffic was moving cautiously anyway. Got home after 5 mins, and restarted vehicle to see if EOBD light remained ON and it did.
To be honest, when it 'knocks' it feels like I'm pulling a small trailer behind me, and there is a distinct lack of power, almost hesitation. I have list confidence in any acceleration and am now driving very conservatively and holding up traffic in my opinion.
Having looked at tech issues with this model, I suspect the EGR is sticking or has failed in the open/shut position. Ordered a OBD2 reader and it should arrive tomorrow so I can see what codes have been stored. Driving temp this morning when taking it to work was -7 outside but I am doubtful any 'sticking' would be caused by cold weather. Mileage is only 50k, and the vehicle covers no more than 6-7k a year (urban conditions) - it rarely sees a motorway/dual carriageway!
Any ideas please?

It sounds a wee bit like you have a fuelling issue, such as the rail pressure sensor, HP pump, injectors - perhaps one is failing, as the knocking must be detonation noise. It could just be one injector clogged. They get a hard life. The EGR sticking open or shut would not cause this I'm sure. It's blamed for a lot of things and likely is the culprit for smoking exhausts (non DPF models) and cold running faults but this is something different I think.

Diesels obviously run on the compression ignition method but if there's less fuel than required being injected, the knock becomes apparent.

See what codes you get and post back. I expect you have the 1.6 HDi? If not, please correct that assumption.
