No voltage on heat blower
#1
Dear members,

I read through a few posts, but did not find an answer. That s why i m starting a new threat.

I have a Berlingo 2012 1.6VTI. Manual Airco en heating.

Problems started when there was a lot of snow/ice on the car and my wife threw a bucket "warm" water over the car to de-ice it.
A few moments later the heater-blower stoped working. i started deassembling the car to possibly get to the blower. The water came inside the car via the blower channeling. First thought was short-circuit and blown fuses. But :

Putting 12volt on the blower : it is working fine.
Tested the resistor : working fine (tested with a meter, giving the right values)
Tested the relay : working fine. (clicking and meter-test Ohm)
All fuses tested : they are all OK

when i attach the relay to the car, i hear it clicking. So there is 12v there.
But when i test the resistor-mount with the meter, i m not mesuring anything 0,00v

Any ideas ?

Am i missing out something in this order the voltage goes : Battery - fuses - relay - console switch - resistor - blower.

Thanks,
Kuzzl

There are two fuses, one is F11 in the engine bay fuse box, bottom left corner, second one up and the other is MF1, it's hidden in a bank under the top tray of fuses in the engine bay box. Also there's a thermal fuse strapped across the top of the heating resistor. If that goes, no juice.

I've attached the schematics and the fuse list.

The current flow order is not as you think, it's fuse, relay, motor, resistor, heating controller panel.

Wow, this is one nice and helpfull answer.

I checked the fuse "airco" in interior fuse box (i think it was f4) and the F11 fuse in the exterior fuse box. Both checked and are good. (visual and mesured with meter , 12v on it when plugged in.)
I have also checked the blower motor plug on voltage, but nothing. Even with a faulty resistor/console switch, is should at least get 12v on this plug, since resistor and switch comes after the blower ?

I'm gonna check the other fuse later this day and keep you posted.

Did you read the diagrams and fuse list I posted too?

All fuses for the blower are in the engine fuse box. The BSI controls it, and is the return path for the current through the heating panel below the stereo. F11 feeds the blower relay coil pins, and MF1 feeds the normally open contact pins. So depending on where there's no power at the relay, there's the starting point. The coil only goes live when ever the blower is switched on at any speed but the N/O contact will be live at one side all the time as it comes directly from a Masterfuse.

The blower relay is green and in the centre of the area behind the glove box, which has to come out to really access it.

If you're really unlucky, she has swamped the BSI with water and killed it (partly) - I guess everything else works? Starting, wipers, windows, lights, indicators, etc?

Hey Zion,

Thanks again for answering.

I was able to reach the fuses under the engine bay fuses and the blower relay fuse was blown. (I only had to remove the big 3 plugs next to the fuse box to be able to lift up the fuse box to reach the fuses beneath. )
Replaced it and everything works as before ?
A pitty they dont mention these fuses in the instruction manuel.

Btw: i was pretty sure the problem was a fuse since everything else worked fine (washers , lights , locks , mirrors , radio ,...)

@Zion , one big thanks for helping me out !

Haha good stuff, glad to hear it was MF1 and all working again. They don't mention those fuses as they are marked "dealer access only" probably to keep people away from replacing a large capacity fuse without knowing where the fault lay.

You are welcome my friend Smile
