New larger battery
#1
2010 1.6hdi 90 Berlingo Enterprise van. Euro 4 and not start/stop.

I needed a new battery for the van.  Despite regular charging using a smart charger, the old battery couldn't cope with the last few days of the cold weather.

I got a Yuasa 5000 - YBX5096.  80AH 740CCA a standard sealed lead acid type. Around £88 with 5 year warranty.
The previous one was a Tudor L2 400 60AH 640CCA fitted from factory so 10.5 years is not a bad innings.

Capacity and Physically, it is bigger but absolutley no issues fitting the larger battery. Plenty of room in the battery tray and the battery terminals had enough play.  It's only longer, not taller or deeper.

Many to choose from but the Yuasa got a good write up generally.  I did look at other brands including Bosch, Varta amongst many others.  All who also had good reports.

I got the larger battery as I do may short journeys (interspaced with much longer ones of course) so I decided the extra couple of KG weight is worth it I hope.

I've posted this to help anyone else needing a new battery....good luck. Remember to follow the correcty BSI reset/Battery disconnect and recoonect procedure !!!

Good luck :-)

Good idea, the standard batteries do seem a bit small but like yours, I found the original Tudor battery was still ok on my 1.6 Berlingo after about 10 years. It struggled a bit on really cold days so I replaced it with the original size and had no problems. The battery in my Volvo 1.6HDi (same engine as the Berlingo) is much larger, but that may in part be due to the lights being on all the time.
Are the 2.0 HDi batteries the same size as the 1.6?
