2009 Berlingo XTR Rear Tailgate(59) not opening
#1
Hello everyone first post (apologies if this is covered elsewhere but I couldnt find anything) so wish you all well and hope somebody can help . The rear Tailgate on the car has just decided not to open. When driving we get a warning message 'Boot Open' Despite trying to unlock lock the car with the remote and via the key in the drivers door the boot will not open, I saw another solution recommending operating an internal latch mechanism with a screwdriver which I have tried but to no avail. I am nervous at pushing what appears to be a lever mechanism so far  that it is damaged or broken. I cannot access any internal panel removal studs,. Does anybody have any ideas of how to get it open. ??
Thanks

Welcome!

Does the small tab /;lever that you can see in the hole for the screwdriver move to the side? If not, maybe the tailgate is partially wedged or stuck open. Perhaps if you can get someone to push the tailgate closed while you try to move the little lever with the screwdriver ?

Yes, try pushing sharply to close the tailgate as you press the button to open it.

Thanks for your Input. I got the tail gate open by putting a small flatbladed screwdriver in the slot of the lock from inside the boot. My wife was outside push /pulling and operating the release pushbutton.
Once I had the lock removed ( but still electrically connected)I inadvertantly closed the lock thinking that it woul again work with the pushbutton sadly this didnt work . So I tested the electrical connection and was getting volts so then figured it might be a duff solenoid in the lock. Any way I managed to get the plastic cover off the lock . once the cover was off (remove smal torx headed screw then screwdrivers to prise the cover off) I could see the lock gears and worm gear connected to the solenoid . First attempt solenoid working but no real movement then I noticed one of the plastic pins had been displaced. Put this back in place with a small scredriver. Greased the locking clasp and tried again with the release button presto working fine now. Probably need to be careful avoid slamming the tail gate. Car locks with remote and tailgate now opening properly. Hope this description was helpful. Hardest part was getting the lock back inside the tailgate cavity as it has to turn through 90 degrees into an aperture.
