2.0 Hdi Siemens v Bosch engine swap?
#1
Afternoon

My pal has an m59 Berlingo 2.0. It suffered the deadly cam sprocket separation last week. He sourced a replacement engine which we put in at the weekend. The original engine had a Siemens pump & the new engine has a Bosch pump.

The new engine will not start, it turns over very well but will not fire. I’m assuming the ECU is Siemens specific? (As in won’t run a Bosch system?)

Is there a way round this? I’m thinking to possibly swap everything over Fuel wise (pump, filter, rail, injectors) from old engine?

Any help appreciated!

You would need the Bosch ECU & BSI & Keys to do a full swap to suit the new engine, but if you can swap over the hardware from the old engine, it should work. The Siemens and Bosch systems are very different on paper.

At least then all of the injectors will already be coded and the rest of the stuff will match. Sounds like you're on the right track with your first option above. Swap all the bits from the old engine onto the new one and leave the electronics as they are.

Yeah, as above swap injectors, maybe the common rail & fuel pump too in case they have Bosch / Siemens specific items.
Where did the new engine come from? I thought the 2.0HDi Berlingos were all Siemens & the 1.6 Bosch.

My understanding is the Bosch system has a fuel supply pump in the fuel tank, but the Siemens system does not, so if you have not fitted one that could be the cause of your problem.

Wouldn't matter, the ECU is still the Siemens one so it won't have the connections on the harness to run a pump that's not normally there....

Not sure about the Bosch system but I'm fairly sure the Siemens does not have a pump in the tank on a 2.0HDi. If the Bosch high pressure pump expects a lift pump in the tank it may not be getting enough low pressure feed.
The ECU may also not be registering any common rail pressure if it's expecting data from a Siemens pump or rail, do you have an OBD reader or Lexia?

I think it's a big ask to fit a Bosch system engine and hook it up to a Siemens ECU. That's the problem, they'll need to move the injection system over from the old engine.
