I got car back from garage they told me nothing was wrong with it as started 1 st time for them even overnight so thought i would have a last look over before giving up the garage told me they checked relay and was fine but thought i would check this again after car failed to start for me and there was power going in and only power coming out of one of the four wires as i excepted to be getting around 3v to each plug and when removed cables were correded and covered in a green algea tried to remove to clean up but sheered connectors on back so im 99.9999999% this is the issue so ordered new relay also goiing to fit some betta glow plugs so ordered some bosch ones as only fitted cheap ebay ones and pretty sure this will be a end to it many thankjs for evreyones help

Ah yes, eBay plugs are crap. Get Bosch ones. And good find at last.

Intermittent faults can be hard to track down. You need a skilled diagnostic tech with DiagBox or you could be chasing this fault the rest of your life mate.
Could just be a sticking fuel pressure regulator for example, but without DiagBox....you will never ever know for sure. (Just one more thing you can't test without it)
One question, do you press the throttle when you start it? Never ever touch the throttle on a DBW car while starting it....it's weird others can start it every time except you....? Or has it happened to anyone else like the AA man?
Reasons being the ECU does a DBW pedal basic zero calibration when the ignition is turned on, if you touch or pump the pedal it puts the pedal zero out of whack and it won't be read properly.
Anyway, get yourself DiagBox or take it to someone who knows this system. Or you could still be doing this thread next year....

Isn't the 1.9d (DW8 engine) a basic beast with a mechanical fuel pump (not common rail) and a throttle cable, I think it has a throttle position sensor.
Haas the fuel filter been changed recently?
