[Engine] {SAGA} Timing snapped
You can't do the rebuild work they claim to have done without draining at least SOME of the fluid.

If you're lucky, those morons just 'forgot' to flush the goop out of the system before refilling.
(it's a messy and time consuming job.... )

I’m really really really hoping it’s purely a case of them forgetting to flush. I’ve been told ‘oil cooler’ by a few folk that there’s a chance that’s went(?). I see it’s a cheap part and seems to be easily accessed but when I seen there were a lot of gaskets I think I pooped a little. Always panic when it comes to gaskets.

IF the oil cooler is at fault is it a straight forward swap (other than the gaskets? Any difficulties to expect when checking this?

Praying to jebus, Jonathan and the Virgin Audrey that that’s is all that could be wrong.

As far as flushing it am I being a t**t in thinking a jet wash through the radiator (not the high pressure type, just the jet on a garden hose) to clean it up and get rid of the gunk. Can this be done and if so can it be done without causing damage to the radiator?

The condition of the old oil cooler looks worse for wear so I’m guessing it came with the car out the factory 230k ago because I can’t find anything to do with it on old paperwork.

You can flush with a garden hose, it works. Split one pipe off the radiator and seal the hose into it and run till it comes out clear.

Garden hose did the trick. Took the header tank off and gave it a clean. Couldn’t reach some of the harder to reach areas in the tank but it’s cleaned up pretty well.

Water ran clean through the radiator after only a few seconds so it couldn’t have been too bad. Coolant was dirty but not overly so. Still going to replace the oil cooler. After looking on fleabay every seller I’m contacting is hitting me with “that’s not the right part”. I can’t see the part number on the old oil cooler. Does anyone know what the part number would be on the 9HP engine?

Try looking on catcar.info with your VIN and digging about?
