Water getting into rear and footwells

Hi I'm new to the group and need advice please.  I've just bought a 2015 berlingo multispace which I'm converting into a micro campervan.  I have removed the carpeting from the driver footwell,  rear passenger footwell and all the way down the driver side rear and there is quite a bit of water just sat there.  I have thrown away the little insulation and  dried out the carpeting. Does anyone know why this is happening and how the water is getting in. The water was in bith footwells and the rear of the car.   Thx

If there are no obvious signs of water ingress at the door seals, windows or hatch, I would be tempted to lay down a lot of newspaper or brown paper all over the interior carpets and next time it rains, find where the wet paper starts from, then work from there.
