Relocated spare wheel
#1
Having had my van for 6 months, I thought maybe it was time I checked the spare tyre  Rolleyes First problem was the tool to wind the carrier (which I guess is also the jack handle?) was missing. I carry a small bottle jack anyway, and with a bit of WD-40 the carrier came down using a big screwdriver. Good job I checked it as it looked like it had been run flat and the tread was separating from the tyre. Ok, not much point in having a brand new tyre sitting on the spare so I had 2 new tyres fitted on the front and swapped one for the spare. I didn't really fancy putting it back underneath and wrestling with a filthy wheel if I ever needed it but I didn't want it just rattling around in the back either. So with a bit of threaded bar bent round an old scaffold tube and some bits from the 'it'll come in useful one day' box...

Ok, no good if your van is usually full, but it works for me, and no excuse not to check the pressure.

Check that you can raise the van with a bottle jeck when the tyre is flat, you may need to carry a short board to drive onto to get the clearance

Is the toolkit missing from under the passenger seat?

I didn't know there was one! I found the jack clipped behind the driver's seat and some clips that looked like they were for the handle and assumed something was missing.

Oh yeah forget now the kit was hidden behind the driver's seat on your van. Mine is under the passenger seat. The jack handle which doubles as the wheel cage spanner thing used to rattle and drive me mad so I unclipped it and stuck it under the deep bit behind the seat when I had the m59. Worth a look

Well.. Yes! Place spare wheel under the car without any protection is terrible idea. Unfortunately it will be obstruct in cargo space for me. But what about place it at rear doors?
P.S. sorry for my English if it's bad

You could fit a bracket to the door to hold the wheel, but it's heavy. I just carry a few tins of tyre weld and a small compressor. Besides I have 17" alloys on the van so a spare wouldn't fit the cage, and an original spare is too small.

Bit of a thread resurrection, but I'm glad I did this. Due to an 'admin error' I found the MOT ran out in a week, not a month as I thought. Booked it in, got in on the morning of the MOT to drop it off on the way to work... and the N/S/R tyre was dead flat.

It passed BTW, just an advisory on the anti roll bar drop link dust covers.
