Change my Berlingo on order? From long to short.
#1
Good morning. The dealer said I can change my order from a 2021 130hp long version diesel manual with Feel to a 2021 130hp SHORT version diesel manual with SHINE! How much will I even need that extra .35 meters? Anyone here with a short wish they had a long Berlingo? Thanks

I bought a new short van last year. I went for the short because 1) cheaper 2) slightly higher payload 3) I drive on some rough lanes that make me anxious about scraping the floorpan 4) it was still longer than my old van 5) easier to manouevre and park in tight spots etc

However since owning the short, although I wouldn't say I regret it and wish I'd gone for the long, I do find my long tools are a bit of a squeeze in the back (they have to go in slightly diagonally), and whenever I see a long van I think, hmmm, maybe....

So, it depends what's important to you. These kind of decisions often involve some kind of trade-off. Can't you do a test drive in a short Shine, immediately after one in a long Feel? (I guess we all want to test a long feel, lol)

(08-03-2021, 08:45 AM)Great response, thank you! I changed my order to the 2020 short version in Shine. Yes, ideally I would have gotten the long version, but it meant waiting 4 months instead of three weeks. We only have one child right now, so by the time my family grows large enough to need more than 5 seats plus more boot space, I will be able to wait patiently for a custom ordered Berlingo.   So the window on the tailgate is a plus, and the tinting is something I was going to add anyway, now that I think about the way the 2nd row folds, I\m not sure that should have been the sole reason for paying 500€ more. Plus, I want a spare wheel, and I'm not sure if the car already has a carrier underneath, or if I will have to use my precious boot space to carry it. So I have some other questions gor you, since I can see you have ample experience with the Berlingo. Which seat configurations does your family use? Which ones do you remove? Which Shine features have you found to be the most useful? Funny joke about the "Feel"--that's why I tried to carefully word my post. Wrote:  notsofastI bought a new short van last year. I have both kind and also ordered one more L2. L1 is okay if you absolutely do not need the room. It's more nimble, turns around pretty much on a sticky note and is more responsive to accelerator due to weight difference. In every other scenario L2 is better. I am an outdoorsy type, enjoy the hell out of throwing an inflatable mattress in the back and camp comfortably. I also have three kids so traveling with them including luggage would be really tight in the L1.

The L2 downside is the lack of modutop option and no cargo shelf, soft roller only. Then again, you can pack it away comfortably whereas the cargo shelf only folds in half and takes a lot of room.

(Replying to Primal Van Man):
I do have experience with Berlingos (20 years with a Mk1, 8 months with a Mk3), but it's just with vans, not the people carriers, so unfortunately I can't comment on Shine features, cos the vans have different specs ("Worker", "Enterprise" and "Driver"). But it sounds like you're doing the right thing - i.e. thinking carefully about what features are important to you. Is there a reason why you can't wait the 4 months?

(08-03-2021, 11:13 PM)I can\t wait 4 months because I don't have a car and I have been taking the bus for long enough. Also, with a car I can take my wife and daughter as far away as possible from my mother-in-law. I really liked reading people's opinions.notsofast Wrote:  (Replying to Primal Van Man):
